BLUE RIDGE BARN QUILT TOUR
The BLUE RIDGE BARN QUILT TOUR in Greene County has grown in its twelve months of existence to being the largest in Virginia……and perhaps one of the largest throughout the U.S. Greene County is one of the smallest in area and population in the state so we are very proud of how the residences have supported this project. The project is a joint effort between the Art Guild of Greene and Economic Development and Tourism.
The idea of having a barn quilt tour in Greene began in January 2017. Our first map/brochure was printed in the spring of 2017 with 36 locations and 42 barn quilts on display……some families have more than one featured. Our updated map now has 51 locations with 63 designs displayed. We have already prepared additional blocks that will be included in the third printing.
Barn quilts are exhibited on barns, houses, fences, mailboxes and in gardens. Some designs are actually reproduction of squares from family heirlooms quilts. Each design is painted on wood, which has been preserved for longevity.
Most of the blocks are painted by two of the Art Guild member artists; however, we offer Barn Quilt Workshops for those who wish to learn the technique and paint their own.
