TEDx Talk: Jennifer Pharr Davis

In this recently released Tedx Talk, longtime B.R.O. contributor and friend Jennifer Pharr Davis discusses her journey hiking the entire Appalachian Trail in the fastest recorded time for any man or woman. Importantly, she remarks how her adventure sparked a streak of deep personal growth. From frozen eyelids to avoiding men by hiding under rhododendron bushes, Davis experienced a number of ups and downs on her 2,180-mile hike.

“I had never seen myself as a part of nature…until I hiked the trail,” Davis says. “And after walking over 2,000 miles, after hiking through 14 states, you better believe that I base my self-worth a whole lot less on how I looked and a whole lot more on what I could do. The trail made me realize that I could do so much more than I once thought was possible.”

Read Davis’ article in this month’s issue of the magazine on the Gender Gap in the outdoor industry. Not all outdoorsy people have beards and wear trucker hats and flannel shirts.
