Trek Drops LeMond

Mega bike manufacturer Trek is dropping its line of LeMond bikes, largely because of Greg LeMond’s outspoken stance on the doping epidemic in professional cycling. In 1986, Greg LeMond became the first American to win the Tour de France. Trek began building and distributing LeMond road bikes in 1995. LeMond has been an outspoken critic of doping in professional cycling for years, even testifying against Floyd Landis in an arbitration hearing. LeMond has also publicly implied that Lance Armstrong’s relationship with a certain Italian doctor should be investigated further.

A representative from Trek, which supplied bikes for Armstrong’s seven Tour de France wins, said LeMond’s comments damage reputations and weaken the LeMond and Trek brands.
