Weekend Pick: Lookout Mountain 50 Miler in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Dec. 20

For select members of the sports population, even a marathon isn’t enough for a full day’s work. If you are one of those crazy ambitious few, then look no further than the Lookout Mountain 50 Miler race in Chattanooga, Tennessee this coming Saturday, December 20. Lookout Mountain

Runners will begin their journey at the Covenant College Baseball Complex near Lookout Mountain Scenic Highway. From there, the course winds through the trails of Lookout Mountain, passing the Jackson Springs, Lula Lake and Falls, Eagle Cliff, and Rock Creek before circling back to the finish line. This race includes some of the best sites in all of the Chattanooga and Tennessee area, so take a look as you run by and don’t miss your chance to reap the beautiful rewards Lookout Mountainof your efforts!

Seven aid stations will be set up throughout the course, where gels, drinks, and snacks will be available. Guzzle down some soup and hot cocoa, grab a banana for the road, and refuel for the miles ahead. There will be plenty of water at these stations, but all runners are required to bring their own full bottle! The event also recommends having nutrition bars, energy gels, and salt replacements tablets stocked and ready.

The day begins bright and early at 6 AM for registration and check-in. At 7:30, the the gunshot will ring out and send you on your way. Runners must finish and exit the course by 8:30 PM. After miles 34 and 38.2, safety runners may join in to keep you on track and in the game. Spectators may also camp out at miles 22.5, 34, and 38.2. A tech t-shirt, plenty of food and drink, a goodie bag, and – best of all – a place to sit down will be ready for you at the finish line.

Online registration for the Lookout Mountain 50 Miler will close at midnight on December 18. Last minute registration will be available on the evening of Friday, December 19 and on the morning of race day. The event will also feature a 10K race, for those of us with more normal endurance limits.
