Weekend Picks: Oskar Blues 4-Miler

There are two names synonymous with adventure in Brevard: Oskar Blues and Bill Baldwin. Oskar Blues has been hosting the 4-Miler and other outdoor events in the region for years, and it’s an outpost for adventure in Pisgah. Baldwin has been a top athlete ever since he was named All American Cross-Country MVP in 1996 while running for Brevard College. Today, at age 42, Baldwin is an elite running coach—and still a badass runner—who trains in his hometown, and he’s the race director of the Oskar Blues 4-Miler.

Over 200 runners toe the starting line for this scenic course starting at the Oskar Blues Brewery. Live music and food trucks at the start/finish keep runners motivated and hungry for the finish line. Age group winners receive beer steins and handmade local pottery while overall winners receive gift certificates from Asheville Running Company. Proceeds go to the Local Smart Girls of Brevard, part of the Local Boys and Girls Club.

The race starts at 11:00 am on Saturday, with a kids’ 1-mile fun run taking off soon after at 11:05. Event organizers ask that you register early here.
