Experience the magic of nightfall on the river during Friends of the Rappahannock’s July 27 Thunder Moon Paddle, from Old Mill Park to City Dock. Thunder Moon is the Rappahannock Indian name for the July full moon, because it’s the time of year when thunderstorms occur most frequently. This year’s Thunder Moon is a “Micromoon,” meaning the moon will be near its apogee, or farthest distance from the Earth. Join FOR Volunteer Leader Michelle McGinley for this Friday night kayak float. We’ll talk about river ecology, FOR’s mission, and ways the river influenced local history. Minimum age is 12 years and some paddling experience is helpful. Meet at City Dock at 7 p.m. for a shuttle to Old Mill Park. We’ll be back at City Dock by 10 p.m. More info and tickets available at https://www.riverfriends.org/event/full-moon-paddle/
