Sound like a dream? We have news for you.

The forests, lakes and tumbling rivers of Mountain Maryland are more than just a treasure trove of adventure. They’re also the “laboratory” for the Adventure Sports Management bachelor’s degree program offered by Frostburg State University in concert with Garrett College.

The Adventure Sports Management program incorporates all kinds of unique recreational resources into its out-of-the-classroom experience, from developed sites like the Wisp Ski Resort, Adventure Sports Center International and Deep Creek Lake to the raw allure of state forests, whitewater rivers and rugged peaks. Whether it’s spring semester or fall, summer sun or snow, Adventure Sports Management students have (sometimes literal) boatloads of ways to be outside.

While you’re there, you will be preparing yourself for a career in the tourism industry, which needs leaders and innovators in the growing outdoor recreation specialties.

The entire four-year program is offered on the campus of Garrett College, within easy access of all the outdoor diversions you could ask for. Built on both Garrett’s internationally known two-year Adventure Sports program and Frostburg’s Recreation and Parks Management degree, Adventure Sports Management combines an attractively located campus with the faculty, resources and credentials of a University System of Maryland institution. And speaking of credentials, you’ll also have tons of opportunities to earn nationally recognized certifications from groups like the American Canoe Association, the American Mountain Guide Association, the National Association for Search and Rescue and more.

The Adventure Sports Management program helps you to develop the management skills and professional connections necessary to become a successful leader in the tourism industry. Classes led by Frostburg professors help you foster the leadership skills that open up opportunities for advancement or to become an adventure sports entrepreneur and start your own gig. The program integrates critical thinking and creativity across the curriculum, combining adventurous exercise with economic factors and environmental awareness. The prestige of a management degree and the excitement of adventure sports – what’s not to love?
