Paddle a River Tomorrow. Do Good Work. Drink Free Beer.

Earlier this week was July 4th, which means hopefully you blew up stuff, grilled food, and preferably swam in a river or lake. As the French Broad Riverkeeper, I love freedom and America as much as the next patriot, so I bring you the Riverkeeper Beer Series with the Wedge at Foundation. There will be time on the river, grilled food, lots of beer, but instead of blowing stuff up, we are going to clean up tires out of the river.

And if floating and cleaning up the river isn’t your thing, did I mention free beer?  Everyone that joins the fun will get a free beer at the Wedge Foundation after party. Wedge Brewing Co. is one of six breweries supporting MountainTrue and the French Broad Riverkeeper in our work to clean up and protect the French Broad River. Six breweries, six unique beers and the chance to float, clean up, and be a patriotic post-Fourth of July American!

You don’t even need a float or boat for this event because French Broad River Outfitters is providing everything we need. Everyone will meet up at the Wedge at 1 pm on Saturday, July 8. You are an automatic winner as the first 10 to register get a limited edition Riverkeeper Beer t-shirt courtesy of Recover Brands, everyone receives Mix 96.5 sunglasses and a raffle ticket, with a chance to win ENO hammocks, Watershed Dry Bags and Michael Franti tickets. We will shuttle up to the Swannanoa River to begin our journey. After a few miles paddling through the Biltmore Estate property and picking up tires, old baby dolls, 40 bottles and whatever else we find, we pop out on French Broad River and float to the Wedge.

Everyone knows the Wedge has amazing beer, but we won’t just enjoy beer, we will give out prizes for the weirdest trash, most trash collected and other prizes. At our kickoff event at Hi-Wire a Ken doll head and a message in a bottle took home the prizes for weirdest trash. The featured beer is the Wedge’s version of a shandy with Wit Beer and grapefruit soda. It’s perfect for a hot day on the water. For the month of July, $1 of each of these beers will go to MountainTrue to continue our work to clean up and protect the French Broad River.

So if you love America, Freedom, beer, and clean water, come join the fun. Register at MountainTrue.org to make sure we have a boat and enough free beer for you.

The Riverkeeper Beer Series is presented by Blue Ridge Orthodontics and MountainTrue and proudly sponsored by Mix 96.5, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Recover Brands, French Broad Outfitters, Headwaters Outfitters, ENO, Watershed Dry Bags, Liquid Logic, The Matt & Molly Team, and Movement Mortgage.
