The Shootout

One hundred of the country’s best freestyle kayakers will go head to head on the Nantahala River in Western North Carolina this weekend (April 16-18) for the NOC Freestyle Shootout. Boaters will literally do cartwheels in their boats for the $10,000 cash purse. The Shootout has always been a popular event, but this year, the competition is an official USA Freestyle Kayaking Point Series Event, so more pros are filling the competition slots. And if you want a chance to paddle with the pros, head to the NOC Friday night for the Open Surf Under the Lights. The class II Nantahala River is one of the most popular whitewater destinations in the country, but it’s recently gaining clout as a world-class freestyle destination. In fact, the river has just been named the home of the 2013 World Freestyle Championships for 2013.  Check out the NOC for more.
