ATV Deaths on the Rise

All-terrain vehicle (ATV) accidents killed at least 555 people in 2006, according to a recent report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and 111 of those deaths were known to be children younger than 16 years old.

In a state-by-state tally of those fatalities, the South was unfortunately well-represented with West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia in the top 10. Pennsylvania topped the list.

There were also 146,600 injuries attributed to ATVs in 2006, an increase of almost 10,000 from the previous year.
