Jonathan Basham, a speed hiker and ultra runner living in Pennsylvania, set a new Long Trail speed record on September 11. Basham, with the help of his crew, which included AT speed record holder Andrew Thompson, ran the 270-mile trail in 4 days, 12 hours, 46 minutes, and 4 seconds (4:12:46:04). Basham bested the previous record, set by Cave Dog Keizer, by 29 minutes. The Long Trail is a 270-mile backcountry footpath that traverses the Green Mountain Range in Vermont, from the Massachusetts border to the Canadian border. It is one of the most coveted speed records in the country.
