Be Like Lance

In 1998 Lance Armstrong trained around Beech Mountain in the North Carolina High Country as he prepared for the first of his seven-straight Tour de France victories. Next month regional cyclists can tackle the same mountainous terrain with the first annual Beech Mountain “Beest” Cycling Time Trial Weekend, which takes place May 23-24. In addition to a range of activities for cyclists of all abilities, the main event will be a time trial on the infamous Lance Ride, which ascends from Banner Elk up Hwy. 184 to the top of Beech Mountain.
