Hawaii’s the New California

The Hawaii state legislature passed the landmark Solar Roofs Bill in May, becoming the first state in the nation to require solar water heaters to be installed on all new homes. A solar water heater will save up to 40% on a home’s electric bill and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 12,000 tons annually.

The bill is seen as the first major step toward Hawaii’s renewable future. The Governor has announced a goal of transferring 70% of the state’s energy supply to renewable sources by 2030. Hopefully, other states will pass similar solar water bills in the near future.
