Ultra-marathon runner Dean Karnazes won the 2008 4Deserts, a series of four ultra marathons run through some of the most daunting conditions in the world. Karnazes completed the Atacama Crossing in Chile, the Gobi March in China, the Sahara Race in Egypt, and the Last Desert in Antarctica to win the 2008 race series. Each race is a seven-day stage event over 250 kilometers. Only two other runners registered to compete in all four desert races, one of which had to drop out before the end of the first race.
