A rockslide and roadway failure has closed the Parkway to all activities including foot traffic and bicycling between the entrance to Craggy Gardens Picnic Area and the entrance to Mt. Mitchell State Park in North Carolina (milepost 367.6 to 355.3). For the last two years the closure made thru-biking the parkway impossible and visiting Mount Mitchell State Park more difficult. On May 15, the National Park Service is scheduled to reopen the Blue Ridge Parkway between Asheville and Mount Mitchell, ending the two-year closure. At first, only one lane will be open to traffic, so expect delays.
