Parkway Preservation

The state of North Carolina recently completed an agreement to protect 1,488 acres owned by the CSX Corporation in McDowell County along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The conservation easement will protect the property from development and logging while CSX will continue to own the land and operate a rail line that runs through the property. The tract encompasses forested mountain views from milepost 325 to milepost 329.5 of the Parkway including a few popular overlooks. The property also includes 1.5 miles of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, the route followed by militiamen during the American Revolution.
