A new USA Track & Field record for 50 kilometers was set on Sunday by American runner Josh Cox. Posting a time of 2:47:17 at the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon in Phoenix, Cox bested Alex Tilson’s 2002 record by over four minutes. Amazingly Cox did this with an upset stomach that forced him to take two bathroom breaks and made him have trouble keeping down fluids. “It was tough out there, but the crowd support really helped, especially once I got going around the track. I was training such that even though it was an off day, I still got the American record,” Cox said after the race.
