Clean Ups, Hikes, and VanLife Rallys, Oh my!

It’s been a busy week for the three of us. After getting the run around from Hurricane Florence we turned our van south towards Western North Carolina. In the last five days, we’ve been a part of three separate events. Two of which were slightly affected by the recent hurricane. We topped it all off with the 4th annual Asheville Van Life Rally.

On Wednesday we joined forces with Pisgah’s favorite bike shop The Hub and Pisgah Tavern in Brevard, North Carolina. This was our second time helping out with a clean up in the area. We didn’t actually enter the National Forest due to closures caused by the hurricane, but there are several heavily used day-use areas right off the road that needed some extra love. Once again we had a great group show up who were eager to get down and give back to one of the most beloved mountain biking destinations in the country.

The following day we led a group hike just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. We were originally set to lead a litter flotilla that would have had us cleaning up trash on the Frech Broad River by Canoe. Once again we were skunked by the storm. The water was too high but we enjoyed a wonderful late afternoon hike right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Then finally, on Friday we made our way to the 4th annual Asheville Van Life Rally at the June Bug Resort. This year, the rally expanded to a two-night campout welcoming over 250 vans and adventure rigs from all over the country. The Van Life Rally was complete with live music on a stage made from a vintage truck, yoga, demos, van-life talks and more. It’s always fun to hang with the van-life community. It was almost overwhelming to see all of the different build-outs.

We decided to give back to the community by providing S’mores and comfortable Crazy Creekchairs by the campfire on Saturday evening. Honestly, it was the place to be.

Keep an eye out for our next post, where you can virtually tour many of the vans that showed up for the rally.
