Something special happens in Lynchburg during the fall. The leaves along the Blue Ridge Mountains turn vibrant shades of red, gold and orange, and the cool weather creates the perfect environment for fall festivals and outdoor events. We’ve rounded up a few of Lynchburg’s legacy events that you must check out.

Genworth Virginia 10 Miler and Amazing Mile – Sept. 23-24

Where southern hospitality meets the road! Stewarded by the Lynchburg Road Runners Club, the Genworth Virginia 10 Miler has hosted many elite runners over the years and welcomes participants from near and far to challenge themselves and reach milestones.

The Amazing Mile Children’s Run invites visiting and area youth ages 13 and under to get up and get moving! Held in conjunction with the Genworth Virginia 10 Miler, this regional favorite offers and an event for every skill level including a one-mile run, a half-mile run, and a quarter-mile run.

Virginia Garlic & Wine Festival – Oct. 8 & 9

Rebec Vineyards hosts the 30th Annual Virginia Garlic & Wine Festival this year on October 13 and 14. This two-day festival offers Virginia wine, live entertainment, arts, crafts, and, of course, garlic! Sample tastings from the countless guest wineries in attendance, check out the artists performing at one of the many stages, and get a healthy dose of delicious, garlicky foods.

Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival at Poplar Forest – Nov. 12

Eat, drink, shop and explore a piece of American history when the Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival returns to Poplar Forest. The festival, which celebrates Jefferson’s legacy as the father of Virginia Wine, features tastings from over a dozen of Virginia’s finest wineries.
