Your Lynchburg, Virginia Guide to this Year’s LOCKN’ Music Festival

This year marks the seventh anniversary of the LOCKN’ Music Festival. On August 22-25, thousands of people will flock to Infinity Downs and Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, Virginia, for four straight days of incredible music, immersion in good mountain air and beautiful scenery, and making new friends. It’s not too late to purchase tickets for the festival and we have some suggestions to help make your festival experience one to remember.

LOCKN’, a short history:

The LOCKN’ Music Festival started in 2013 with a dedication to music and community, and a goal to provide an incredible atmosphere. Over the last six years, artists such as Tom Petty, Robert Plant, Phish, Carlos Santana, My Morning Jacket, Ween, Wilco, Zac Brown, Willie Nelson, Phil Lesh and more have performed to sold-out crowds of real music enthusiasts. And, thanks to the incredible community and spirit of creativity that flows through LOCKN’, once-in-a-lifetime collaborations have happened right on the Lockn’ stages: The Doobie Incident, featuring The String Cheese Incident and The Doobie Brothers, and Widespread Panic and Jimmy Cliff.

LOCKN’ uniquely blends world renowned music, local vendors and community engagement into a festival that you don’t want to miss.

Who’s at LOCKN’ this year:

This year’s headliners at LOCKN’ include Old Crow Medicine Show, Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians, Tedeschi Trucks, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Bob Weir collaborates with a few friends!  Plus over 30 more music acts to look forward to!

Besides the main stage, LOCKN’ has two other side stages where you can get more intimate with the bands and the crowds are smaller.  Look for Bob Weir there with the Wolf Brothers!

Where to Stay for LOCKN’:

We highly recommend the more comfortable option!  Lynchburg, Virginia is a quick 30 minute drive from the festival grounds, with many comfortable, quality and luxury lodging options available.  You will be able to find a place to lay your head on a nice soft pillow at the end of a music-filled day, or night, and enjoy a long, warm shower. And to sweeten the deal, you have the option of shuttling to and from your hotel to LOCKN’ via Brew Ridge Tours!  Check their website rates and hotel packages with Lynchburg’s two Downtown boutique hotels, The Virginian Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton and the Craddock Terry Hotel and Event Center, plus the Holiday Inn Downtown.

For the fully immersed, LOCKN’ experience:

The festival venue is spread over two beautiful, historic farms, over 5000+ acres in total. Easy walking paths run throughout the grounds, and you are encouraged to bring a bike to get around the venue as well as enjoy the bike trails. Bike racks will be provided at the event site and around the venue. There are General Stores available and plenty of vendors, so you can easily find what you forgot to bring.

There are several General Admission (GA) camping options, including Car Camping, Forest Camping, and Tent-Only Camping.  Want to amp it up a bit?  LOCKN’ has VIP and Super VIP Camping options too!  There is also a Family Camping option for those wishing to attend the festival with family style.  If you would like to camp away from the party crowd, there is a SoberLOCKN’, area as well.  All campgrounds are close to showers (small fee), bathrooms, hand-washing stations and fresh drinking water.

Up the comfort level a tad with their RV and Tour Bus rentals, or bring your own RV.  There are many ways to get that Glamping experience.

The LOCKN’ Pre-Party is in Lynchburg!

And, as a warm-up to the LOCKN‘, on Wednesday, August 21st City Auditorium presents a  LOCKN’ Pre-Party event with Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave live at Downtown Lynchburg’s Riverfront Park.  The first 750 LOCKN’ ticket holders get half price admission with the code LOCKNFAM!
