Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Shenandoah National Park are two of the country’s parks most at risk from coal-fired power plant pollution, according to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). NPCA’s new report highlights the ten most threatened parks jeopardized by proposed coal-fired power plants. It also calls on the Administration to abandon its effort to permit more harmful air pollution near national parks.
“Instead of opening the door to more pollution in national parks such as Shenandoah and the Great Smoky Mountains, the Administration should be working to secure a legacy that preserves America’s national treasures for our children and grandchildren,” says NPCA’s Clean Air and Climate Programs director Mark Wenzler.
