Across the nation on Friday, September 19th, activists will turn parking meters into miniature city parks, complete with lawns, trees, and benches. The movement celebrates National Park(ing) Day, a Trust for Public Land initiative to emphasize the need to create public green space in America’s cities.
In over 60 participating cities, activists will fill meters with quarters, then roll out the green space where cars usually park. Green space enthusiasts in several southern cities are scheduled to participate in the initiative. Look for the small, temporary parks in Atlanta, Chattanooga, and D.C.
