This bill, recently introduced to the Senate by Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.), would amend the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965 by permanently providing $900 million to the Land and Conservation Fund, the federal government’s main program to protect public land and provide outdoor recreation opportunities. The original 1965 bill provided full $900 million funding annually to the LWCF, but only once since its inception has all $900 million been allocated.
