Help Build Bikes for Kids in Asheville

There’s an open call for bike builders on Thursday, October 16, in Asheville, N.C. Specifically, 110 bikes will be assembled by volunteers and then donated the very next day to underserved kids in the area.

The effort is a collaboration between the nonprofit organization Can’d Aid and Yasso, a company that makes tasty, yogurt-based frozen treats. It’s the third year in a row the organizations have partnered up on this effort, and in 2025 the goal is to donate 1,200 bikes to kids in need across the country.

So if you’re handy with a wrench, plan to be at Hi-Wire Brewing (284 Lyman St.) at 5:30pm, and if you want to help you can sign up in advance here

The next day, the new bikes will be given to first and second graders at Emma Elementary, a Title 1 school in Asheville, and according to the folks at Can’d Aid many of these kids will be receiving a bike for the very first time, which is awesome.Learn more about Can’d Aid’s efforts here.
