Speedgoat to Tackle A.T.

Professional endurance racer Karl “Speedgoat” Meltzer will attempt to run the length of the A.T. from Mt. Kathadin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia faster than anyone else in the past. The current A.T. speed record (a startling 47 days, 13 hours, 31 minutes) was set by Andrew Thompson in 2005.

Meltzer is considered one of the strongest ultra runners in the world, having won 48 ultras during his career, including a record holding four wins at the Hardrock 100. He specializes in grueling 100 mile races, but will have to average 45.7 miles a day, everyday for a month and a half to beat Thompson’s record. Starting August 5th, Meltzer will be tracked by a GPS and give daily updates during his quest for A.T. dominance.
