Stimulating Our Parks

The economic stimulus bill recently signed by President Obama directs $3 billion to the Department of Interior (National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management) and $1 billion to the forest service to fund road and trail projects, campground maintenance, and fire mitigation projects.

The administration has asked the NPS and USFS to identify their highest priority projects, and the Interior Department will launch a website listing each project. Both agencies have been told funds will go to a mix of projects including trail and campground restoration and that the highest priority will be given to projects that will create the most private sector jobs.
