Wild and Wonderful

Congress passed the Omnibus Public Management Act, a massive piece of public lands legislations that contains 16 Wilderness bills that will protect more than two million acres of forests across nine states. It is the largest public land protection measure passed by Congress in more than 15 years. In the Southeast, the act will create new Wilderness in West Virginia and Virginia. The bill will also designate new National Scenic Trails, National Historic Sites, and protect hundreds of miles of free-flowing rivers in six states as Wild and Scenic.

The bill now moves on to President Obama’s desk for his signature.
