Blue Heron Adventures

Guided excursions, rentals, and lessons

Multiple outdoor recreation programs can be found under one umbrella at Blue Heron Adventures by Catawba Riverkeeper. Take a half-day guided excursion or try a self-guided adventure on a kayak, canoe, or stand up paddleboard. They even offer lessons. Dress comfortably and let Blue Heron Adventures take care of the rest.

Whitewater Center

Whitewater and flat water experiences

Known as the world’s premier outdoor center with man-made whitewater and exceptional climbing, the Whitewater Center also offers flat water kayaking and stand up paddleboarding rentals on the Catawba River and Long Creek. Discover local wildlife while you paddle around islands to create your own adventure.

The enthusiastic staff at Anchored Soul offers an amazing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life as they transport you to the beautiful waters on Lake Wylie, the South Fork River or the Catawba River. Getting on the water is a simple phone call away.

Tailrace Marina

Paddling and power boats

Located on the Catawba River across the river from the Whitewater Center in Mount Holly is this marina that carries a wide array of equipment including kayaks, paddleboards, and pontoon boats. After your excursion make time to hang out on the patio at J.R. Cash’s Grill and Bar located onsite.

Riverside Marina

Visitors will find several ways to get on the water at Riverside Marina in Belmont. Canoes, paddleboards, kayaks, and pontoon boats are all available for rent. After your blueway experience, check out Muddy River, an award-winning rum distillery, or head in to downtown Belmont for a bite to eat and a cold drink.

Papa Steve’s

Mobile board shop

This mobile board shop can get you on the water in a jiffy. Make your reservation by simply contacting them by phone and they will show up to get you on the water so you can make some amazing memories. Hourly rates and lessons are also available.

Catawba Kayak Co.

Self-guided kayak and tube rentals 

This kayak and tube rental company has pre-mapped drop-off points where they will meet you to get you on the water. Many of the locations are located in slow-flow areas of the South Fork River where you can drop-in and exit at the same location. Or, they also have a few flowing river routes that would require a second vehicle located at your exit point. At this time Catawba Kayak Co. does not offer a shuttle service. Get outside and explore the beautiful rivers, lakes and wildlife this area has to offer.

Sun’s Up Scuba

Day rentals of kayaks and paddleboards with complimentary transportation. Sun’s Up Scuba can set you up for a day of fun on the South Fork River where you will find beautifully protected shoreline along this slow moving river. They offer exceptional customer service with a broad inventory of rentals for individuals, couples, and groups.

Belmont Rowing Center

Learn to row
Ever wanted to try rowing? Get one-on-one coaching with a private lesson from the Belmont Rowing Center. Whether you are picking up an oar for the first time or looking to get additional coaching, this place can tailor an experience to your needs creating a fun day on the water with affordable rowing programs for youth and adults.

We are only minutes away from Charlotte Douglas International Airport and have great places to stay and unique dining establishments to make your trip complete.
