April kicks off our summer Food Truck Series, where at least once a week, food trucks gather in one of our parks – complete with children’s activities, live entertainment and a variety of fresh, local food.

Strawberry Season

If it’s May in Chesapeake, it’s strawberry season – and our farmers’ markets are abuzz with activity. The heart and soul of our local flavor, our working farms offer fresh, locally prepared foods and artisanal creations – from fresh honey, to fresh produce and baked goods. And did we mention the strawberries? Delish!

Paddle for the Border – May 4, 2019

Hundreds of kayakers and canoeists from across the East Coast launch
their vessels into the Dismal Swamp Canal’s cool calm waters. The historic waterway serves as the backdrop for the annual 7.5-mile paddling excursion to the Virginia/North Carolina border. Click here for more information.

Dismal Swamp Stomp Running Festival – April 6, 2019

Runners get a chance to trek through what is surely one of the nation’s most unique half marathons, 5K, and the Children’s Half-Mile Cub Run. Runners compete at the annual springtime running of the Dismal Swamp Stomp Half Marathon. Participants run on a route along the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail that winds through the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Click here for more information.

Chesapeake Jubilee – May 16-19, 2019

This event is more than a carnival, it’s a family tradition. The Jubilee is renowned for the annual Chesapeake Kiwanis Club Shrimp Feast and the BBQ Cook-off Competition.
