Roanoke native Aaron Dykstra walked away with the coveted “Rookie of the Year” award for his sleek and elegant track bike at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, where the best custom bike builders converged to compete for top honors. For two years, Dykstra has been building Six Eleven Bicycles, custom-made bikes inspired by a famous Norfolk and Western steam locomotive, the 611. In honor of this iconic train, Dykstra gave his award-winning track bike a similar paint job and a small stainless steel grill.
