Build Trails, Ride Bikes

Brevard, N.C. is playing host to two major mountain biking conferences this spring. The 2011 Sustainable Trails Conference (March 15-17) will bring trail builders and land managers to the area from all over the world to discuss the ins and outs of building a sustainable piece of singletrack. The keynote speaker for the conference is Dafydd Davis, a Welsh trail builder who’s attained rock star status in the trails world for his guidance of the Welsh Mountain Bike Initiative, a comprehensive plan that turned a depressed countryside into a world-class bike destination. Later in the month (March 25-27), the Southern Mountain Bike Summit, will come to Brevard for clinics, demos, issue discussions, and epic rides in Pisgah and Dupont State Forest. Go here for more info.

The dueling conferences are helping to solidify Brevard’s status as the mountain bike mecca of the South.
